Finding Me: Dominant Devils Book Three Read online

Frozen in place, I heard Ghost in the background, “he’s finally getting it. Now let's see if he gets his ass kicked.”

The moment I laid eyes on the asshole, it finally registered what the Oldheads saw each time they caught a glimpse of Bree. Why the fuck didn’t I picked it up sooner? When that beautiful brunette first came to town something in my gut was telling me there was more to Bree showing up by coincidence. Did she show up here on purpose? I just buried it over the few years she’s been here as she has slowly woven her place in the club.

I jumped back lowering my fist and let go of the fucker that reached over me. Not sure how many times I do it, but I keep looking at the asshole in front of me then back to the table behind me feeling like I was in the middle of the twilight zone before a smart remark pulls me out of my daze.

“For a minute there I wasn’t sure whether you ready to fight or fuck, asshole? I only came over to fill my fucking cup. This is the last bottle of Jack here tonight and you fuckers are hogging it all. You’re lucky I’m too fucking tired to deal with your ass right now, but if you grab me like that again tonight, and I’m gonna find one of those fucking energy drinks your girl likes just so I can whip your ass,” the man who had to have come from the same gene pool as Breezy snaps.

I try to pull my shit together and mask the waging emotions zooming through my body in order to defuse the situation. I need to map out a plan of action, and I can’t do it with him hanging around. So instead of doing what I want to do, I apologize. “Sorry brother. I thought you were fucking Throttle trying to be a dick. I still haven’t completely settled my shit from earlier. I’m still raging a bit. Besides, you’re not pretty enough for me, Wall.”

  Chapter 7

  Tank

After yet another sleepless night, I threw back the comforter and crawled my ass off the couch in the den. It has become my bed for most of the last two and a half months. I haven’t slept worth a damn since the night the Oldheads brought their suspicions to me months before. The only time sleep seems to find me is after I spend a better part of the night with my new best friend, Jose. Jose Cuervo that is. Tequila by night has been my best friend but my worst enemy when I wake in the morning. More often than not I find myself spending my night drinking straight from the bottle while brooding over the little goddess that I want but can’t have. I don’t know what’s worse, the ache in my dick that only she’ll be able to satisfy or the fact I’m spending as much free time as I can trying to piece together the puzzle of how Bree showed up on our door. I hate keeping secrets from my brothers, but I agree with the Oldheads. We need to get all the information we can before airing out the club’s dirty laundry to everyone, including Bree. I’m still mindfucked that Wall and Carrin have a sister they knew nothing about. I’ll be glad when all this shit is out in the open and settled.

At least I’m not the only fucker dealing woman problems. Wall hasn’t been himself since the little heart to heart he and Madison had after the girls snuck off to go shopping without permission back in January. He finally decided to man up and go after Madison, but it seems to have been too late. The big asshole isn’t taking it well. Then there’s the shit with the Prez and Avery. He’s avoiding her, and she's avoiding him just as much. Both of them stubborn and not willing to budge. Fucking females are enough to drive the sanest of men fucking bonkers.

Maybe after this weekend, things will calm down a bit. You now that saying about absence makes the heart grow fonder or some shit. Most of the woman are headed to California for the weekend to attend Avery’s bandmate’s baby shower. Most of the members aren’t happy about them traveling so far away with only one prospect and Trevor to escort them. At least Trevor, Avery’s gay best friend, isn’t one of the flaming gay men. In all honesty, you would never be able to tell by hanging around him. Yeah, the man has his moments but for the most part, he's just like one of the guys.

Things have been quiet since Bree’s attack at the bar. Even though we were able to take care of some of the rogue Grizzlie fucks, that fucker Carmen and a few of his followers were still floating around. Axle and I have been in contact with Ben, the band’s head of security and fiancé to the pregnant one, ever since the invitation arrived in the mail. Other than the women and kids traveling in the air unattended, he has assured us that they would be protected from the time they touch down at LAX to the time he and his men dropped them back off to board their return flight. Axle seems to respect and trust the guy, so it leaves the rest of us no choice but to trust the President’s decision to let them go.

I walked into the kitchen that was bustling with everyone trying to eat breakfast while others were getting their luggage ready to leave for the airport. Fuck this, I was going to grab a mug of strong ass coffee and take my usual spot in the corner of the table in the kitchen. I’d make myself scarce as to not get in any of the cranky-ass females’ way this morning. We were due to escort the van carrying the women to the airport in less than an hour.

“Everything good to go, Prez,” I asked Axle as he sat down next to me with his son on his lap. I still couldn’t get over the fact that one of my closest friends was a dad to a four-year-old that he only learned about a few months ago. Unless you knew that little tidbit, you would never know. My friend fell right into the dad role and was kicking ass at it. I just hope when news of the next long lost child comes to light it goes over as well as bringing Hunter into the family.

“Yeah, I talked to Ben last night to make sure everything was in place. There will be five of his men with the girls at all times, as well as himself, with more on standby. Most of his crew will be at the shower as guests, but they all have been informed of the situation and the repercussions that will follow if something happens to any of them,” Axle answered.

“Good, I'm still not sold that something won’t kick off, but it’s your call. I’ll feel a lot fucking better Monday night when their asses are back here where they belong.”

Axle was about to respond when Avery walked in the kitchen. She went straight to the coffee pot where she spoke quickly to Bree before heading straight out the door to the back deck. I didn’t turn my head from the beautiful girl left standing by the coffee pot now in deep conversation with Izzy as Axle lifted his son only to place him back in the chair so he could follow Avery outside. I just sat there drinking my coffee watching the one female who has been invading my every thought for far too long now. I needed to get laid, that was all there was to it. When we got back from the airport, I plan to take one of the guys with me to go scout for some tail in town. Maybe after a few hours of hardcore fucking, my thoughts of Bree would quiet down a bit. Not only would it ease the serious case of blue balls I’ve been sporting for months now but also prove just why my selfish ass wasn’t worthy enough for the brown haired goddess standing by the coffee pot.

“YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY MINE TO WORRY OVER. THAT SHIT HASN’T CHANGED AND NEVER WILL! YOU ARE MINE AND ALWAYS WILL BE,” Axle yelled loud enough that everyone in the kitchen heard and froze in place. Oh shit, this was not gonna be good. We all remained silent as Axle stormed into the kitchen before stopping in front of Trevor.

“If she’s still looking like shit when you land, I want you and Ben to drag her ass to the doctor. I don’t like that my girl is sick while she’s fucking hundreds of miles away,” Axle said to Trevor leaving no room for argument as he stormed off to the den.

Trevor was mumbling something about getting their heads out of their asses as he turned to head back to the living room to start collecting bags to carry outside. At the sound of Trevor opening and closing the back door, everyone seemed to snap out of their daze. The kitchen soon cleared leaving only Izzy and Bree. They were still standing at the sink rinsing out their coffee mugs to drop in the dishwasher before turning to leave the kitchen. I don’t know why I did it, something just came over me, and the words just came out. “Hey, Bree, can I talk to you for a second?”

I watched as Bree looked at Izzy silently begging her not to le
ave her alone with me in the kitchen. For months now she has been distant and quiet when it comes to me. She no longer flirts or bullshits with me or even really carries out a long conversation with anyone other than the woman in the family. Yeah, she’s respectful and speaks when spoken to, but she stays in the background most of the time. A few weeks ago I overheard her with Izzy, Hyde, and Trevor playing cards at the table after everyone else had gone to bed. She was a little tipsy from her glass of wine and seemed to really be involved in the conversation going on around her. They were discussing who was the best drummer of all times and apparently she had to be the deciding vote. Trevor was going with Travis Barker, Izzy was gushing over Jeremy Spencer, and Hyde was sticking with Chad Smith. Of course Breezy threw them all for a loop when she soon informed them that while they had made some good choices she couldn’t agree with any of them. Apparently, my girl was a bit of a Nirvana fan because she broke into a speech about how Dave Grohl was as badass as they come. Her words, not mine. I was so lost in my head grinning at the memory of Bree’s slip of the mouth with saying ‘ass’ that I didn’t hear her at first.

“Tank. Tank. Earth to Tank,” she was saying pulling me back to the here and now. When I lifted my eyes to her, she gave me an unsure smile before questioning me. “What did you need to talk to me about? Is everything ok? I need to go grab my stuff before they leave without me.”

“Don’t worry, baby girl, they won’t leave without you. Besides, they can’t leave without me, and I’m right here with you.” I let that sink in a minute before I went on. “I didn’t need anything important. I just wanted to make sure you had everything you needed, that’s all.”

“Yeah, I’ve been packed for a few days now. I’m excited. I’ve never been to California before. I’ve seen the Pacific when I went to Mexico on vacation when I was twelve but never California,” she answered quickly.

I smiled at her excitement. “I’m glad you're excited, babe. Have fun out there and make sure to take some pictures of everyone. Enjoy yourself but above all be safe. Make sure you stick with the girls and if you have to leave the house for anything you make sure that one of Ben’s guys are with you.”

“I’ll be fine, Tank. You don’t have to worry about me. I’m a big girl. Just make sure that Queenie and Hawk take care of Diesel for me,” she snapped.

She seemed annoyed that I was worried about her. What the fuck was that about? “Bree, I’m going to worry about you and the rest of the girls until you all are safely back in this house Monday night. There’s still some slimy fuckers out there looking for revenge making you and the rest of the girls a moving target. I know we’ve eased up a bit in the last two weeks but we still have to be cautious.” Due to lack of sleep, being slightly hungover and my lack of caffeine my patience was wearing very thin. So when I saw she was getting ready to yell back at me, I beat her to it. “Don’t say another word unless you want me to bend you over my knee and spank that luscious ass of yours. I’m not in the mood for this shit this morning. Go get your shit and get yourself out to that van and get ready to go. We roll out in thirty,” I say getting right in her face to drive my point home. I left her standing in the kitchen staring at my retreating back while I made my way back through the house hoping to catch a break. With all the craziness in the house this morning the bathrooms have been occupied since I woke up. I didn’t have enough to shower but I at least wanted to have a few minutes to brush my teeth. Sure enough my prayers went unanswered until the last damn minute. I had managed to get the toothpaste on the brush when my enforcer was banging on the door.

“It’s time to roll asshole! Stop primping and get your ass on the move,” Wall yelled from outside the door. Knowing I didn’t have time to spare I kept quiet and proceeded to scrub the morning breath off my teeth. I so was not in the mood for this shit. I just kept repeating “get’em to the airport and you’ve got the whole day afternoon free” to myself. Turns out I wasn’t the last one to ready themselves. Leave it to Momma Bear to be the last one loaded. With Doc behind the wheel and the hens loaded, Axle, Wall, Happy and myself escorted the van to the airport. It was just under an hour’s ride to Columbia where the ladies would be boarding a private jet that was sent to pick them up.

The trip to Columbia went by too quickly. As the convoy rolled to a stop in front of the private hanger I heard a loud whistle from my brother. “Look at that boys. It ain’t every day you get to see how the rich and famous fly. What do we gotta do to get us one of those? Hell, we got our own pilot in the group now we just need the plane. Axle, you think the club can use one of those birds as a tax write off,” Happy laughed.

“Fuck that! Think we need a new toy hauler to lug the bikes before we worry about a fucking plane dipshit. Now if you’re done can we get on with this shit. I’ve got to head into work when we’re done. Unless you wanna help me do the tires on trailer 107 I suggest ya quit the talking and get to unloading the bitches shit so we can get back on the road,” Wall’s grumpy ass snapped back.

Shaking my head at the two arguing over buying a damn plane I followed Axle to the back of the van to start unloading the heap of bags the girls had packed for the weekend. You would think they were going on a months vacation instead of a three day trip with the amount of shit they were taking. I could hear everyone saying their goodbyes but I chose to stick to the background until everyone was finished. I watched as Bree followed an overly excited Izzy to board the plane. She never looked my direction, just grabbed her bag and fell in line behind Izzy. Part of me wanted to walk up to her and make her give me proper goodbye but the other part knew I shouldn’t. One, I’m not about to make myself look like some pussy whipped asshole and two, I needed to keep things between us on a friends level. Friends were all we would ever be.

  Bree

I don’t know why I got aggravated with Tank earlier. I know he was worried about me just like any friend would be. It’s not his fault that I wanted something he didn’t. The past few months living under the same roof have been great. I’ve done my best to fit in and help out however I could. The longing of belonging to this crazy group of chosen family is killing me. I’m scared to admit I’ll miss it. I don’t know what I’ll do with myself when Diesel and I have to move back to my lonely apartment. My furbaby and I have fallen right into the routine of the house. Even with every room filled to the max everyone seems to make it work. Yeah, there’s the tension between Madison and Wall, which I’ve been told there always has been between those two, and the silence between Avery and Axle but they manage to keep it to themselves. Oh well, when the time comes and the dust has settled I’ll leave but I know I’ll be making more of an attempt to visit. I’ll miss everyone too much. When the time comes I’ll worry about it then. Right now I’m looking forward to putting my feet in the Pacific and spending a few days with the girls while we hang out with one of my favorite bands. I never in a million years would have thought I’d actually meet the members of Break Away, let alone be invited to stay at their house. It just doesn’t seem real. Real or not it’s happening. I’ve just got to make it through the rest of the trip to the airport and less than six hours in the air before it becomes my reality.

“Okay girls, let’s go over a few rules before we get there,” Trevor starts to say only to be interrupted by Hyde. “What rules? I thought this was supposed to be a mini vacation. No one said anything about rules.”

“Chill, Goldie locks. I just want to stress that the girls are very private. I know I don’t have to worry bout anyone here running to TMZ but I just need to put it out there. They're just normal people that have to live their lives in the spotlight just to make a living doing what they love,” Trevor says lovingly although you can hear a bit of protectiveness in there as well.

“Come on Trev, you know we would never do anything to invade their privacy. I feel like their part of the family already. I face time with Demi at least once a day. I can’t wait to hang with her in person. We actually have plans to throw some shots back tomorr
ow night. She thinks she can out drink me so I told her to put her money where her mouth is. After the shower, it’ll be a night of drinking and bullshitting. I for one can not fucking wait,” Hyde says with a bit of a snort.

“I know, believe me. I’ve been volunteered to be the judge of your little wager. Which I might add, I’m not too happy about it. I’m still trying to figure out how I got roped into being the sober judge while you all catty bitches get to drink the night away. The lot of you better be grateful I love you or you’d be shit out of luck. Anyway as I was saying, just remember their just people. Behind all the fame and music they are no different than any of you. Until Ben came into the fold I was the overprotective brother of Cali and Layla. Then, of course, Ember and Demi when the four hooked up. I’m only saying this because I’ve done it myself. Once people know that you’re close to the band they’ll use what seems to be an innocent conversation to dig into their lives. All I’m asking is that if we are hit by reporters going or leaving just keep your head down and mouth zipped. Hell, once word spreads around Great Falls, don’t be surprised to have people coming out of the woodworks wanting to be friendly. Fucking people are nuts,” Trevor says while turning to look at an ill-looking Avery. You can tell by looking at her she’s not feeling too hot.

With Trevor’s words, the conversation turns into twenty questions. Everyone is picking his brain for stories on the band. You could tell he was trying to pull Avery into the conversation with his stories from previous tours. He was just finishing up a story about Hunter, Ember and himself high jacking the stadium’s golf cart and getting chased by security while taking it for a joyride when the van came to a stop.
